The fact that she won two gold medals in her first game and followed her simple philosophy of "work hard and be yourself" won her the hearts of the British people. Her success also awarded her  the BBC's Young Sports Personality of the Year Award in the same year.

In February 2009, she became the youngest member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in history, and later that year she won six gold and one silver medals at the short-course IPC FINA World Championships  in Rio de Janeiro. bottom. Brazil.

Prior to the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, England, Simmons had not lost the 400m freestyle at the World Championships or Paralympics since 2008. Everything has changed thanks to Ukraine's Elizabeth Melesko, who defeated Simmons in her thrilling final and made her world championship debut with two more gold medals.

Simmons was unable to return to the top at the 2016 IPC Swimming European in Funchal, Portugal, where she won one silver medal and three bronze medals.
