Rahma Khaled Hussein


 Our second superhero is Rahma Khaled Hussein a 24 years-old young woman with Down syndrome. She is the first broadcaster with Down syndrome, it’s a dream that she pursued since she was eight. Rahma is also an Egyptian swimmer and a Paralympic champion in basketball and tennis, and swimming, she studied at Al-Alsun school for tourism and hotels. 


Rahma had her first championship in 2009 when she was eight years old. She qualified to represent Egypt in the regional games championship, which was held in Syria, and won four medals: 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Rahma won first place in the Olympic swimming championships in 2010 and 2011, and the republic championship in 2010. 



Rahma presented several programs on the radio, including the "Children of the Day" program on Voice of the Arabs radio, and she also presented a news bulletin for people with special needs. She presented her first program as a broadcaster on “DMC” on the morning program during the month of December 2018. In addition to her participation in many activities and positive contributions, such as photography and animal husbandry, participation in presenting parties and conferences, and her permanent presence in awareness activities held in schools to integrate people with disabilities.


She worked as an official spokesperson for the Egyptian federal association for intellectual disabilities. Rahma established a page on “Facebook” and she presents successful and distinguished models in the community, and conducts various activities related to awareness of people with disabilities.



Rahma represented Egypt in a large number of countries in sports championships and conferences, including Syria, Lebanon, Korea, Oman, Abu Dhabi, Italy, and America. 


Rahma Khaled represented Egypt in the World Youth Conference held in Korea in 2012, and in the Special Olympics World Championships as an official speaker, in addition to that she represented Egypt in the Sultanate of Oman in December 2013 with the Egyptian team in tennis, and won a bronze medal. She also represented Egypt in Lebanon 2012 as an official spokesperson for people with disabilities from the Middle East and North Africa with the Special Olympics in the Youth and Schools Conference.


In the eighth regional tournament that was held in Egypt in December 2014, she gave a speech to the players in front of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and a large number of ambassadors of 28 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and the Egyptian tennis team participated and won a bronze medal.


In 2015, Rahma Khaled was nominated as a member of the International Regional Advisory Board, as the first member with Down syndrome, and attended the first meeting in October of the same year in Abu Dhabi.


Rahma even said in her program “8th in the morning”: “she has to make a new achievement, and she decided to learn “Ping Pong” because she loved it”. And that she learned it in only 3 months. She’s making a lot of efforts getting ready for the championship, striving to be on the first place. 

“I love every now and then to challenge myself in something new, because I know that i can do it, and that nothing is impossible” Rahma said. 


In another context, Rahma Hassan expressed her happiness with her participation in the "Khalawees" campaign affiliated with the "Misr Al-Khair" Foundation, which aims to pay off debts for women debtors in various governorates of Egypt: "I dream that Egypt won’t have any women debtors”.


The first female journalist with Down syndrome dreams of presenting a special program for people with disabilities, raising awareness of their rights, and talking about their exceptional abilities.
